Las Cruces - Four of the area's most listened-to radio stations will be joining forces once the FCC approves the sale of Edwards Media Limited to Bravo Mic Communications.

Bravo Mic owns KVLC 101.1-FM (101 Gold) and KXPZ 99.5-FM (The Rocket) and will soon take over operations of KMVR 104.9-FM (Magic 105) and KOBE 1450-AM. The $1.9 million sale is expected to be completed in February, according to Bravo Mic executive vice president Mike McKay.

Magic 105 (hot adult contemporary format) was the fourth-most listened-to station in Doña Ana County in 2005, according to Arbitron radio ratings. Stain 1450-AM (news/talk format) ranked No. 5 on that list, while 101 Gold was the most popular station during that time eriod. The rocket was not ranked because it went on the air in June 2006.

Larry Edwards, oner of Edwards Media Limited, said he was pleased with the sale and said devoted listeners need not fret over format changes.

"Magic 105 fans and KOBE fans don't have any reason to worry," he said.

McKay said there is an overlap between The Rocket's alternative playlist and Magic 105's pop/rock format, but "there will be less crossover once we take over."

No drastic format changes are planned, he said.

"Magic 105 is a very well-branded radio station in Las Cruces, It will continue to be Magic 195," McKay said. "KOBE will continue to be political with syndicated show."

Las Crucen Tabeel Holloway, 12, said she listened to Magic 105 at night and while riding n the car. She said she especially enjoys the parodied songs played during the Magic Morning Show.

"It's my favorite station," she said. "It can be very entertaining."

McKay said all four stations will eventually be housed under one roof at 101 Perkins Drive..

The recent shakeup means there are now two radio conglomerates in southern New Mexico. The second is Radio of Las Cruces, which includes KGRT 103.9-FM, KHQT 103.1-FM, KKVS 98.7-FM and KSNM 570-AM.
